1- The Blue Grotto

This wonderful cave is located on the coast of Capri island in Italy. Its a sea cave with only a single entrance and no exit. It’s one of the biggest sea caves with almost 54 meters in length and up to 150 meters depth. The entrance, however, is quite narrow with a length of 1 meter and width about 2 meters. Because of this narrow entrance, a visitor injured his neck back in 2011. The distinguishing feature of this cave is the blue glow seen from outside and inside. The entrance presents a shining blue light when seen from outside. Also, the objects placed in the premises of the cave appear silver due to reflection.

Historically this cave is known for centuries. In the Roman era, it was used as a swimming point for the emperor. In the 18th century, the sailors believed that the cave was inhabited by ghosts and witches. Blue Grotto was rediscovered in1826 and millions of tourists have visited the cave since then. It is a well-known tourist point in Italy nowadays. Normal sea conditions are necessary to visit the cave and swimming is strictly prohibited there.

2- Cave of the Crystals

Cave of the crystals also famous by the name ” the giant crystal cave” is located in Chihuahua, Mexico. As the name indicates, this place is filled with giant crystals. The biggest crystal is about 12 meters long. The main chamber consists of a selenite crystal. The cave is 27 meters long with a depth of about 300 meters. The cave was discovered in 2000 during mining.

It is not a tourist point. This is due to extreme conditions inside the cave. A temperature of 54-58 C and 99% humidity allows survival only in inappropriate conditions.

3- Krubera Cave

Krubera also is known as Voronya cave is the second deepest cave in the world. It is located in Abkhazia, Georgia. Its length is about 13 km and a depth of 2197 meters with a single entrance only. It derives its name Kubera from a Russian word meaning crow cave. It was named because a great number of crows nested in the cave. The cave was discovered in 1960 during research by a Russian scientist.

Due to its depth and the venomous flora and fauna, tourism is not appreciable. Also, the geology doesn’t favor the tourists. However, its huge anatomy includes it in the list.

4- Hang Sơn Đoòng

Hang Sơn Đoòng is among the biggest natural caves in the world located in Vietnam. It is 9 km long with a depth of 150 meters only. This cave with 2 entrance points was discovered in 1991.

Tourism to this cave is allowed but on a limited basis. Almost 1000 permits are issued each year for tourists. February to August is accessible and the point is closed after that. This is because the rains in July and August raise the level of the river and the cave is left inaccessible.

5- Fingal’s Cave

Fingal is a sea cave located on Staffa island of Scotland. It was discovered in 1772. This cave is hazardous because it’s partially filled with seawater and slippery rocks and there’s only a single entrance to it.

Fingal’s cave has a very wide entrance that allows small ships to pass easily through it. After a short distance, a row of columns makes walking possible. The sight presented by the cave is breathtaking and reflects the beauty of the island of Iona. Therefore tourism to this cave adds a sense of some worthy adventure.
